Changes in maritime law have allowed big ships to leave paper charts behind and rely entirely on electronics. Faced with the many hundreds of pounds needed to buy enough conventional charts for our second round Britain and Ireland cruise, not to mention the huge effort required to keep them up to date, we’ve been looking into whether it will ever be realistic for a yacht to dispense with paper.
